Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp tomato sauce or ketchup
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for searing)
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 8 oz button mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tsp water (slurry, for thickening)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, panko breadcrumbs, tomato sauce, egg, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, black pepper, and salt. Mix until just combined and shape into four patties.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned.
  3. Remove patties and sauté onions and mushrooms in the same skillet for about five minutes until softened.
  4. Pour in beef broth along with onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Return the patties to the skillet and simmer for ten minutes.
  5. Mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry; add to the gravy to thicken.
  6. Season to taste before serving over your choice of side dishes.
