  • 1 vanilla bean (split)
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs (beaten)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  2. Melt unsalted butter in a medium pan over medium heat with the black tea bag and split vanilla bean until golden brown.
  3. In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugars, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together beaten eggs, buttermilk, pure vanilla extract, and cooled brown butter.

  6. Bake for 5 minutes at 425°F before reducing temperature to 325°F (160°C) for an additional 15-25 minutes until golden brown.
